The
solo show Green and Pleasant Land was exhibited at Paco
das Artes along side the Sao Paulo Bienal. Paço das Artes
is a center for contemporary art, directed by the curator Daniela Bousso,
who curated the Parallel exhibition at the Bienal in 2006. Green and
Pleasant Land was part of an exchnage between Paco das Artes and ROOM
artspace in Bristol, England. The show brought together three related
landscape works:
The Blot series: Four large strangely
beautiful (Bristol Evening Post) photographic landscape prints.
These include the contrasting landscapes of The Lafarge Exshaw aggregate
plant on the shore of Lac des Arc, Alberta, Canada, and the Corus steelworks
at Port Talbot, Wales. This developing series combines reflecting pools
and natural sublime landscapes with icons of the industrial or technological
sublime.
Model Landscapes: In contrast to her large
installations, these miniature landscapes are small object based vignettes,
subject to surveillance by cameras.
Decoy: Drawing on works by painters such as
Gainsborough and Poussin as well as the creations of landscape designers
Humphry Repton and "Capability" Brown, this DVD presents a
series of animated digital "paintings", displayed on a plasma-screen,
in which subtly evolving fractal landscapes are combined with photographic
images of the views of the grounds of English country houses.
